SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - September 13, 2010) - INTEL DEVELOPER FORUM (IDF) -- Pericom Semiconductor Corporation (
The upcoming PCIe 3.0 specification defines operating speeds up to 8Gbps, representing a 60% speed increase from the existing PCIe 2.0 clock speed of 5Gbs, and an almost 100% data speed increase, due to a more efficient encoding scheme. While many 5Gbs systems already required signal conditioning solutions to operate, the new 8Gbs speed will pose even more significant signal integrity issues for both PCB and cable media, which can impact system stability and performance in next generation designs.
To address this issue, Pericom is offering two ReDriver signal conditioners (PI2EQX8804 and PI2EQX8864) developed with PCIe 3.0 technology in mind that can restore signal integrity for system reliability, while also offering simplified design, lower power, reliable and repeatable EQ settings, and lower cost compared to other more complicated solutions. The PI2EQX8804 is pin compatible with its popular 5Gb counterpart (PI2EQX5804), offering further design flexibility and upgrade options for next generation system designers.
"As a long time respected PCI Express vendor, we are pleased to see Pericom's PCIe 3.0 product family announcement at Intel IDF," said Al Yanes, president of PCI-SIG. "We anticipate that early adopter companies, such as Pericom, will capitalize on the opportunity to introduce products based on the PCIe 3.0 technology at 8GT/s performance and speed."
"Pericom is very pleased to be among the first to announce multiple product solutions for the now emerging PCIe 3.0 applications," said Dr. Gerry Liu, senior vice president of marketing. "Having had good success and experience with our PCIe 2.0 product families, our top tier customers are already evaluating our PCIe 3.0 solutions for their next generation server, storage, and embedded platforms."
Pericom is also offering two PCIe 3.0 compatible signal switches, which allow high speed 8Gbs signals to be switched from lane to lane, or connector to connector with very low latency, power, and signal loss. The product family offers both flow-through (PI3PCIE3412) and fold-back (PI3PCIE3415) pin options to optimize signal routing and board design, with both products offered in a very small 9mmx3.5mm TQFN space saving package.
Completing the PCIe 3.0 offering, Pericom's Timing offering includes two very-low-jitter PCIe 3.0-compliant clock generators: the 2-output PI6C557-03B and 4-output PI6C557-05B. It also has two clock buffers: the 1:4 PI6C20400B and the 1:8 PI6C20800B. The clock generators offer extremely low 0.45pS RMS phase jitter (typical), which translates to lower overall system Bit Error Rate (BER). The clock buffers offer multiple low-jitter copies of the PCIe 100MHz clock for distributed timing. Coupled with the added option of Pericom's very-low-jitter SHPCIe100 XO, customers can design a complete PCIe 3.0 compliant timing solution for their platform with excellent jitter margin.

About PCI-SIG
PCI-SIG is the Special Interest Group that owns and manages PCI specifications as open industry standards. The organization defines and implements new industry standard I/O (Input/Output) specifications as the industry's local I/O needs evolve. The PCI Special Interest Group was formed in 1992 and became a nonprofit corporation, named "PCI-SIG," in the year 2000. Currently, more than 900 industry-leading companies are active PCI-SIG members worldwide. PCI-SIG's current directors are employed by the following PCI-SIG member companies: Agilent, AMD, Broadcom, HP, IBM, Intel, Dell, NVIDIA and Sun Microsystems.
