DULLES, VA--(Marketwire - September 14, 2010) - Echo360, the recognized leader in campus-wide solutions that enable universities to record, manage and share rich media course content for lecture capture and distance learning, announced today the results of a cross-institution student survey regarding the usage habits and learning benefits associated with lecture capture. Among the highlights, students rank lecture capture as "very important" more frequently than other academic technologies, including learning management and live conferencing systems.
The findings are published in a report called "Capturing Student Perspectives About Lecture Recordings." The paper is available at http://www.echo360.com/studentperspectives.
"We've long known that students love lecture capture for its appeal to their on-demand lifestyles," said Fred Singer, CEO of Echo360. "This survey now provides evidence that institutions should add lecture capture to their repertoire of learning resources because students integrate it into their study time and experience improvements to their comprehension. It is a win-win for institutions and students alike."
Roughly 690 students at eight universities participated in the survey. Other insights include:
- Eighty-eight percent of students that watched once per week or more agreed that recordings improved their understanding of course material
- Lecture capture offers learning and efficiency benefits for students regardless of graduate or undergraduate status
- Surveyed students overwhelmingly desire expansion of lecture capture at their institution (88 percent)
The data was collected as part of The Feedback Loop, a survey tool offered to Echo360 clients. Colleges and universities that want to participate simply sign up for the program at www.echo360.com/studentsurveys. Echo360 provides a link to a survey that the institution may issue to students. The universities are able to access their student responses and, in all cases, student identities are completely anonymous.
The survey is another service offered by Echo360 to support research on the impact of lecture capture in education today. On September 21, 2010, the company will announce the recipients of its second annual Research Grants Program that provides four $10,000 grants to institutions around the globe.
