CINCINNATI, OH--(Marketwire - October 5, 2010) - Etegent Technologies Ltd., formerly SDL, a high-tech, research and development company, today announced that it has received a $1.2 million enhancement of its Phase II SBIR contract with the Air Force Research Lab at Wright Patterson Air Force Base and the Air Force Material Command 809th Maintenance Squadron out of Hill Air Force Base. As part of the contract, Etegent will build and demonstrate at Hill AFB a non-destructive inspection (NDI) data management system designed to improve military aircraft maintenance planning. Etegent developed a prototype of the data management system as a part of a $750,000 Phase II SBIR contract, which was awarded in June 2007.
"We have a long-standing relationship with the AFRL, and this contract provides us a tremendous opportunity to expand our relationship with the Air Force by supporting the needs of the AFMC 809th in Utah, as well as other maintenance squadrons," said Thomas Sharp, principal and co-founder of Etegent Technologies. "The Air Force is looking for ways to improve its capability for monitoring of inspection coverage, trending of inspection data across multiple aircraft, and communication among all the groups involved with building and maintaining aircraft. Our NDI data management system will provide the Air Force with information required to optimize aircraft inspection and maintenance processes."
Sharp added, "Once we have completed the system, we will demonstrate its capabilities at Hill Air Force Base in Ogden, Utah. We look forward to proving our technology and continuing to build our relationship with the Air Force."
Etegent's NDI Division is focused on providing tools and services that extract valuable information from NDI data that can be used to improve aircraft maintenance, manufacturing, and fleet management processes. Etegent Technologies has developed a set of software tools that automatically organize, archive, and analyze digital inspection data. The data is organized by aligning it to a CAD model of the structure being inspected, which will to allow the maintenance group to quickly identify regions of missed inspection coverage.
