BIRMINGHAM, Mich., Oct. 5, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The National Arab American Medical Association (NAAMA) announced today that Dr. Otis Webb Brawley, Chief Medical Officer of the American Cancer Society, will deliver the keynote address at its 32nd National Medical Convention, this weekend in New York City. The theme of the convention is "Prevention, Discovery and Innovation in Medicine and Surgery 2010."
The convention, running from Friday, October 8, through Monday, October 11, will feature a series of scientific presentations and updates on such critical healthcare topics as oncology; cardiology; anesthesia; bladder pain syndrome; early detection of sexually transmitted diseases; early detection of eye diseases; primary care musculoskeletal complaints; obesity therapy; common skin conditions; sleep apnea; dialysis treatment; and dentistry. Continuing Medical Education credits (CMEs) will be granted for these scientific sessions.
Dr. Bassem Zeidan, member of the Royal College of Surgeons and American College of Surgeons, and NAAMA New York Convention 2010 Chair, said, "We are delighted that such a renowned physician as Dr. Brawley has agreed to address our members. Dr. Laith Jazrawi, chief of the Division of Sports Medicine and assistant professor of Orthopaedics at New York University, is scientific chair for the convention. The convention also marks the observance of NAAMA's 35th anniversary. Founded in California in 1975 as the Arab American Medical Association, the group became a national organization in 1980. It is the largest organization of Arab American doctors and other healthcare professionals in the U.S. This event, expected to attract 300 attendees from across the United States, is open to NAAMA members and non-members, physicians as well as other healthcare professionals. In addition, an extensive social program will offer the excitement of the New York City experience.
