OPNET Joins Microsoft System Center Alliance

BETHESDA, Md., Oct. 8, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- OPNET Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:OPNT), a leading provider of solutions for IT service assurance, today announced its participation in the Microsoft System Center Alliance. The Microsoft System Center Alliance aims to deliver the best set of management solutions in the industry by leveraging an ecosystem of Microsoft partners.  OPNET's AppInternals Xpert™, which can send alerts about performance and behavior to Microsoft System Center Operations Manager, enables businesses and government enterprises to achieve dramatic improvements in application availability and responsiveness with lower support costs.

"Joining the Microsoft System Center Alliance extends the reach of OPNET's IT Service Assurance solutions to the very broad set of IT organizations that use Microsoft System Center Operations Manager," stated Todd Kaloudis, OPNET's Senior Vice President of Business Development & Global Channels. "Many modern applications that support critical business processes are too dynamic and complex to keep running smoothly using traditional management methods.  AppInternals Xpert's ability to synthesize actionable information from fine-grained performance data will significantly enhance IT service delivery for Microsoft's System Center clients and the large network of systems integrators who support them."

AppInternals Xpert delivers performance management for critical applications throughout the application lifecycle. It delves into the complex software frameworks of modern applications to extract vast amounts of performance and forensic data to support all aspects of application performance management. AppInternals Xpert can provide valuable analysis for nearly any type of application, but excels in particular in Java and .NET environments. It continuously monitors thousands of system and application metrics within each server, across all application tiers, and automatically spots performance anomalies.  AppInternals Xpert uses unique technology to provide deep instrumentation with very low overhead on the host system. Its patented correlation technology automatically detects patterns in metrics and events, identifying cause-and-effect relationships and pinpointing symptoms that might otherwise go undetected. Panorama also utilizes advanced, low-overhead continuous tracing techniques to provide deep visibility into application code as it executes.

"As enterprises rely on increasingly sophisticated applications, there is a growing need for automated performance management techniques. This is why Microsoft is pleased to welcome OPNET into the System Center Alliance community," explained JD Marymee, Director, Strategic Partner Alliances, Management and Security Division, Microsoft Corp. "OPNET's technologies give System Center Operations Manager customers the ability to support more application initiatives with fewer costly emergencies that distract their skilled technical resources."
