WHAT: | Los Angeles City Councilmember Tom LaBonge and Bill Rosendahl will be joined by |
airport officials and community representatives at a plaque unveiling to commemorate | |
the 10th anniversary of the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) Gateway | |
Enhancement Project. The project was inaugurated August 8, 2000, and has since | |
become a modern icon of the City of Los Angeles, welcoming millions of visitors annually | |
to Los Angeles. | |
The $112-million project encompassed palm trees lining Century Blvd. from Aviation | |
Blvd.; landscaping throughout the passenger terminal area; large steel overhead | |
signage and lighting along Century Blvd. into the terminal area; new public address | |
system; and the iconic 32-foot-high letters spelling out "LAX" with glass pylons ranging | |
from 26 feet tall to over 100 feet tall encompassing a public art lighting program. | |
