FT. LAUDERDALE, FL--(Marketwire - February 3, 2011) - The Florida Community Association Journal and Becker & Poliakoff today announced that former Miami Dolphins wide receiver Jimmy Cefalo has been selected to serve as the Master of Ceremonies for the 2011 Florida Communities of Excellence Awards.
"Jimmy Cefalo represents the kind of dedication to excellence that our awards recognize," said Jim McMurry, publication director of the Florida Community Association Journal. "The fact that he's also energetic and engaging is sure to make this an especially enjoyable evening." The Journal co-founded the Florida Communities of Excellence Awards in 2009 with the law firm Becker & Poliakoff, P.A. to celebrate the outstanding achievements in Florida's condos and HOAs.
After a standout career with the Dolphins, including two Super Bowl appearances, Cefalo turned to broadcasting and quickly distinguished himself. He served as a correspondent for NBC News on "The Today Show," sports anchor for "NBC News at Sunrise" and won an Emmy for his work as co-host of the 1988 Summer Olympics broadcast from Seoul, Korea. Today he serves as the "Voice of the Dolphins" for the Miami Dolphins Football Radio Network, and the host of South Florida's weekday "First News Program" for WIOD 610 AM.
In addition to broadcasting, after leaving the Dolphins, Cefalo drew on his family's long wine making history and founded Cefalo's International where he is Chief Executive Officer. Cefalo's International also serves as the Wine Ambassador for Martini & Rossi Wines.
The Florida Communities of Excellence Awards enables the top communities in the state to promote their accomplishments and raise their profiles while documenting their success and enabling others to learn from their examples. The independently judged awards are open to all Florida Community Associations (Condominium, HOA, and Cooperative). There is no cost to submit an entry and communities may enter in multiple categories.
Businesses that are dedicated to the needs of residents of condominiums and homeowner associations in Florida serve as Awards sponsors. The 2011 sponsors include:
- Diamond-level: Associa, Comcast, The Continental Group, G4S, TDBank
- Gold-Level: Association Financial Services, Kent Security Systems
- Silver-Level: Aquatic Systems, BB&T Association Services, the BCH Group, First Southern Bank, KW Property Management & Consulting, Luke Brothers Inc., Lukes-Sawgrass Landscape, PD Painting.
