ALEXANDRIA, VA--(Marketwire - February 14, 2011) - Don't be surprised if you see more families than usual at your local school this week. That's because PTAs across the country are celebrating National PTA® Take Your Family to School Week, February 13-20.
"This special week emphasizes the value of family engagement, which is the most important ingredient in a student's educational success," said Charles J. "Chuck" Saylors, National PTA President.
Schools are opening their doors to host special events for the entire family this week; all to build stronger partnerships between schools and families. Activities planned for the week include educational themes, like Science Discovery Day, College Fair Family Breakfast, Family Reading Night, family workshops and trainings, and Family Math Nights, among others.
Just last month National PTA announced that, for the sixth consecutive year, the association presented grants to 32 PTA schools for their initiatives to engage families in their schools. The timing of the week -- in February -- and the amount of the grants -- $1,897 -- honor the day and year PTA was founded: February 17, 1897. See the complete list of grant recipients here.
Contact National PTA Office or visit www.pta.org to find out what activities PTAs and schools in your community have planned for this special week.
PTA's Take Your Family to School Week is sponsored by the AXA Foundation, the philanthropic arm of AXA Equitable, a Proud National Sponsor of PTA. Visit PTA.org to learn more about PTA Take Your Family to School Week.
