NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - March 14, 2011) - Corporate Counsel today announced the launch of the first blog on its Web site, written by Rich Baer, the well-known general counsel and chief administrative officer of Qwest Communications International, Inc. The blog will be updated one-to-two times each week.

Titled "Reliance on Counsel -- Tips, tech, theories and tall tales of an accidental general counsel," Baer will focus on two areas of interest: the leadership and strategic issues with which general counsel are currently grappling and the role of outside counsel as viewed through the lens of a corporate client. Known for his desire to bring about change in the practice of law, Baer will also discuss how he does his job in his own legal department at Qwest, current events that are interesting to him and to his readership and ways he believes the practice of law should be restructured.
"Leaning on his 27 years of experience spanning from prosecuting homicides in Brooklyn, New York, to chairing a litigation department at a large law firm in Denver, Colorado, and his current role at Qwest Communications, Baer brings to this new blog vast knowledge and a snarky personality that makes him well suited for the blogosphere," said Anthony Paonita, editor-in-chief of Corporate Counsel. "We are very excited to start this new project with such an iconoclast in our niche area of law and are confident our readers will thoroughly enjoy his insights."
Under Baer's leadership, the Qwest legal department was named the legal department of the year in 2008 by Corporate Counsel magazine, one of the Ten Most innovative Law Departments in 2010 by Inside Counsel magazine, the Minority Corporate Counsel Western Region Employer of Choice, the recipient of the Outstanding Corporate Commitment Award by the Colorado Hispanic Bar Association and the recipient of the Donald W. Hoagland Award by the Colorado Bar Association for the law department's pro bono work.
Baer earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Columbia University and a Juris Doctorate degree from Duke University.
