TEMPE, AZ--(Marketwire - March 18, 2011) - Dr. Edgar Mitchell, the sixth astronaut to ever walk on the moon, has been announced as the 2011 Leonardo da Vinci Society inductee. He will be inducted into the Leonardo da Vinci Society for the Study for Thinking, on June 3, 2011, at the University of Advancing Technology (UAT) in Tempe, AZ.
A graduate of Carnegie Mellon, with a doctoral degree from MIT, Dr. Mitchell was recruited to NASA after his time in the US Navy. Mitchell served as the lunar module pilot to the moon on the Apollo 14 mission in 1971. After his touchdown on the moon, Mitchell went on to research a deeper understanding of human consciousness and psyche and later became the founder of the Institute of Noetic sciences.

Dr. Mitchell is a scientist, naval officer, test pilot, author and astronaut. He has received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the USN Distinguished Medal and was inducted into the Astronaut Hall of Fame in 1998. Dr. Mitchell was nominated for the Nobel Peace prize in 2005 and authored two books: "The Way of the Explorer" and "Psychic Exploration." Dr. Mitchell is a pristine example of an evolutionary thinker and has contributed tremendously to the fields of psychology and human cognizance.
