Cision's Heidi Sullivan to Serve as Panelist on 'Empowering Women in Media' April 8 at Northwestern's Medill School

CHICAGO, March 24, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Cision, the leading provider of PR software, services and tools for the media and public relations industry, today announced that Heidi Sullivan, one of its social media and research experts, will be a featured panelist at NewsCertified Exchange's "Influencing the Headlines: Empowering Women in Media" Chicago conference on Friday, April 8.

The hour-long panel discussion, which begins at 11:30 a.m. at Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism, brings together top journalists and expert sources to offer a "holistic look" at the challenges women face in media, as well as tactics to overcome those challenges. Ms. Sullivan, Vice President, Media Research of Cision North America, will serve on a panel that includes some of the most prominent journalists and social media experts in the U.S.

Moderated by former CNN correspondent Rusty Dornin, a Vice President at NewsCertified Exchange, the panel features Emmy Award-winning Lynn Sherr, former ABC News correspondent; best-selling author Sharon Lechter; Sarah Evans, owner of Sevans Strategy, one of the country's most influential social media strategists; Heidi Sullivan of Cision; and Janan Hanna, a former reporter for The Chicago Tribune, currently an instructor at Medill.

"Social media has been a tremendous agent of change. It has democratized communications, and given women a stronger voice and greater influence across thousands of communities. At 'Empowering Women in Media,' I will discuss practical ways of building social capital and one-to-one relationships on the social web that can help get your ideas heard, discussed and clearly understood," Ms. Sullivan said.

Ms. Sullivan oversees Cision's print, Internet and broadcast media and influencer research. Before coming to Cision in 2004, she was an editorial manager for a firm that produced regional business magazines, an account executive at a PR agency, and an editor and media researcher for a major newswire service. She is a host of the popular Cision Social Media Webinar Series, a blogger for Cision Blog, and frequently speaks at industry conferences and events on best practices in social media, public relations and the changing media landscape.
