"Travelzoo Local Deals is seeing rapid adoption worldwide and we are very excited about bringing the service to the Asia Pacific region," said Jason Yap, CEO, Travelzoo Asia Pacific. "Local Deals is an extension of our forte in researching, evaluating and testing the best deals before presenting them to our discerning subscribers. Our focus on high-end deals serves as an impetus to subscribers to experience what they might have previously not considered. Unlike most players in the market, we are not under pressure to send a deal a day. We continue to be selective and focus on doing what we do best, providing only the best deals to our quality subscribers. In Asia Pacific, we have more than three million subscribers presently."
"In Australia, we have close to 600,000 subscribers. We have an instant penetration of a deal-savvy audience, who are used to transacting higher valued travel items. They are familiar with our brand and the quality of our content," Travelzoo Australia and Singapore General Manager Brad Gurrie said. "For local businesses, Travelzoo Local Deals will help them create tailored deals, with a definite WOW factor that will be showcased to our highly engaged audience. It is a great opportunity for local businesses to generate incremental demand for their products and services."
On 30 March 2011, Travelzoo Asia Pacific launched a trial Local Deal of a three-night luxury Premier Room stay at the Banyan Tree Bangkok for AUD354. The deal was offered through Travelzoo's Top 20 in Australia, mainland China, Hong Kong, Japan, Taiwan, and the Asian Edition in English. The company sold a total of 911 vouchers, which generated 2,733 incremental room nights and more than AUD320,000 in sales.
In the first two weeks since the soft launch, Travelzoo has sold more than 2,000 vouchers to its audience and generated just under AUD400,000 in high-end experiences.
Travelzoo Asia Pacific will apply the same rigorous deal selection and approval process to Local Deals, for which it has become well-known. The process distinguishes Travelzoo as the most trusted trend-setting publisher of travel and entertainment deals.
