MADD Canada to Launch 2011 National Road Safety Campaign in Hamilton

OAKVILLE, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - April 18, 2011) - The City of Hamilton is the site for the annual kick-off of MADD Canada's campaign to encourage citizens to call 911 to report suspected impaired drivers. Hamilton Police Chief Glenn De Caire and OPP Superintendent Ken MacDonald will help launch the 5^th annual national Campaign 911 program on Wednesday, April 20^th.

Hamilton was chosen for this year's launch to highlight efforts by the Hamilton Police Service and the City of Hamilton, which partnered with MADD Canada to install Call 911 road signs, as well as harbor signage to address problems caused by impaired boaters. Hamilton was one of the first communities in Canada to install MADD Canada's Report Impaired Boaters signage.

Campaign 911 encourages and empowers Canadians to report suspected impaired drivers by calling 911. Across the country, MADD Canada Chapters and Community Leaders will join with their local police and other partners to spread the message to report suspected impaired drivers. On average, 4 Canadians are killed and 190 are injured every day as a result of impaired driving. Effective 911 programs increase arrest rates for impaired driving by an average of 30%.
