DALLAS, TX--(Marketwire - Jul 27, 2011) - Spark Networks (
Entitled The Texan, The Brit and Customer Care, Terri's story relayed her hilariously unique experience of joining JDate.com and envisioning her ideal man. On a whim, with Hugh Grant as her inspiration, she changed her geographical location from Dallas to the United Kingdom. At the same time, she added an introductory sentence to her "About Me" essay warning potential suitors she, in fact, lived in Texas. She crossed her fingers; hoping good-looking English blokes would be amused by her creativity and contact her despite her lack of geographic desirability.
What Terri did not realize at the time was that JDate's Customer Care team manually reviews each and every profile essay before it is posted to the site and, until approved, is not visible to other JDaters®. Due in part to the time difference, in the short time Terri's essay sat in the "pending" state, an English gentleman named James Raven discovered her profile and, thinking Terri was a fellow Brit living only a few blocks away, sent her a message. A short-time later, Terri's essay was approved for public viewing and James realized that Terri lived in Texas. Thankfully, despite the 6-hour time difference between them, he was still interested in pursuing a relationship.
Through email, IM, text, video chat and some very expensive trans-Atlantic flights, Terri and James successfully overcame the inevitable challenges of a very long-distance relationship. Eventually, James "gave up fish and chips for enchiladas and is now happily living in the good old US of A with [Terri] and her Pekingese Mogwai."
Unfortunately, there was more adversity ahead for Terri and James. Terri's father got very ill and, although he was miraculously able to walk his daughter down the aisle at Terri and James' August 2010 wedding, he lost a brave three-year battle with a brain tumor in March 2011. As a result of Terri's father's illness, the two never went on a honeymoon and were hoping to win the "Our Story Began on JDate" contest to have that chance.
"My husband and I cannot thank [JDate] enough. To say these past three and a half years have been difficult with the illness and passing of my father is an understatement," said Glanger. "On top of that, finances have been too tight to travel, so I feel he must be watching from above for JDate to have blessed us with this amazing trip."
"Terri and James' wonderful story, in addition to the thousands of other JDate success stories we've received, is a true testament to the power of JDate," said Greg Liberman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Spark Networks®, owner and operator of JDate. "JDate's mission is to strengthen the Jewish community and ensure that Jewish traditions continue for generations to come. Knowing JDate is responsible for creating more Jewish families than all other dating sites, combined, not only makes us proud, but also proves JDate is accomplishing its mission."
