Health Care Industry Veteran Christobel Selecky Joins American Specialty Health's Board of Directors

SAN DIEGO, Aug. 22, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Total Population Health Management company American Specialty Health Incorporated (ASH) announced that Christobel Selecky has joined the company's Board of Directors. ASH's CEO and co-founder George DeVries, Jan DeVries, Woodrin Grossman, and Bud Volberding are also ASH board members.

Christobel Selecky has more than 30 years experience in the health care industry, including co-founding and growing LifeMasters Supported SelfCare, Inc., a venture backed, market-leading disease management company from start-up to $130 million in revenues. She also previously led FHP California Health Plan, a $2 billion business unit of a publicly traded managed care organization.

She also serves on the Board of Directors of National Healthcare Services, the venture capital arm of Memorial Healthcare Services, a preeminent, non-profit health care system located in Southern California.

In addition to growing LifeMasters, Selecky has been instrumental in driving the growth of the health improvement industry through her leadership role with the Disease Management Association of America (DMAA, The Care Continuum Alliance). Selecky is chair of the DMAA Strategic Planning committee, past president of the DMAA, a former member of its executive committee and Board of Directors, and past chair of its Government Affairs and Health Policy Committee.

Selecky is a frequent speaker on the topics of disease management, the future of managed health care, privacy issues, and health care technology, and has been invited to testify before Congress on several occasions regarding care coordination for Medicare and Medicaid populations.

"We are very pleased that Chris has joined our Board of Directors. She brings a wealth of experience in health plan management to ASH," said George DeVries, co-founder, chairman, and CEO of ASH and its subsidiary Healthyroads, Inc. "And especially as Healthyroads launches its condition coaching programs as part of our Total Population Health Management programming, Chris provides invaluable insight as part of our Board," he continued.
