Orange County Business Council Applauds State Leaders' Job-Saving Legislation

Business Encourages Even More Good Work for Jobs

IRVINE, CA--(Marketwire - Sep 2, 2011) - Orange County Business Council commends Senate President pro Tempore Darrell Steinberg and Assembly Speaker John A. Pérez, working with Governor Brown's office, for their support of SB 617 and AB 29, bills aimed at improving California's business climate through regulatory reform, economic impact assessments, and the creation of an Office of Economic Development.

"OCBC applauds these legislative leaders and bill authors for what we hope will be the first of many job-saving bills to come," said Lucy Dunn, President and CEO. "California has the second highest unemployment rate in the nation and is consistently ranked as the worst state to do business. What is needed now more than ever is a bipartisan approach to creating a more business-friendly climate, where business has the confidence to grow and hire. These bills are an important first step in placing California back on stable economic footing. We hope the leaders will work across the aisles to secure bi-partisan support for these important first steps."

  • SB 617 (Calderon/Pavley) calls for state agencies to consider how proposed regulations might impact California's economy, as well as conduct economic impact assessments.
  • AB 29 (J. Pérez) calls for the creation of an Office of Business and Economic Development as a one-stop shop for businesses seeking assistance with state agencies.

Government support of business growth and success has never been more fundamental to turning around California's economy. Regulatory reform and the establishment of an office focused on economic development and prosperity signal that California is finally open for business. OCBC stands ready to assist Democrats and Republicans with further efforts to improve California's business climate.
