Virtual Computer's NxTop 4 Wins Accolades at VMworld 2011

WESTFORD, MA--(Marketwire - Sep 14, 2011) - Since its release on August 29, Virtual Computer's newest client-hosted virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) solution, NxTop® 4, has been met with critical acclaim and customer popularity. Virtual Computer, the market leader in intelligent desktop virtualization (IDV), launched the product at VMworld 2011 in Las Vegas, where over 30 desktop virtualization solution providers competed for only three winning positions in the hotly contested "Best of VMworld 2011" Desktop Virtualization category. NxTop 4 was the only client-hosted desktop virtualization solution to win one of the top slots, making it the third year running for Virtual Computer to receive these honors. NxTop 4 was also highlighted by CRN Magazine as one of the hot products to watch at VMworld 2011.

"There was a lot of talk about the post-PC era at VMworld," said Dan McCall, CEO of Virtual Computer. "But the industry-wide acclaim for NxTop 4 and the economics of Intelligent Desktop Virtualization would suggest that's more than a little premature. With our IDV solution, users get a phenomenal experience that cannot be matched with thin clients while desktop IT gets to slash their PC management costs by over 50 percent and save up 90 percent on infrastructure."

With the release of NxTop 4, IT departments are equipped for the first time with a desktop virtualization solution that offers both centralized and distributed storage options for virtual machines while still utilizing the enormous computing power at the PC end-point. By combining network-based storage with a stateless client-side hypervisor, Virtual Computer's customers can now keep all their data in the data center, but deliver a high-fidelity desktop experience at a fraction of the cost of server-hosted VDI.

"It's hard to give Virtual Computer enough credit for what they've done," wrote Brian Madden, a prominent desktop virtualization analyst. Industry analyst Gabe Knuth said, "We hear from major virtualization vendors that it is difficult to create a client hypervisor that runs on all the client hardware available in the world and about how users don't want to have multiple machines (or at least don't want to KNOW that they have multiple machines). Virtual Computer has, by far, the most mature piece of client-side virtualization software on the market." Lenovo, the fastest growing manufacturer of business PCs, also announced a global distribution agreement for NxTop 4 with Virtual Computer at VMworld 2011. Lenovo and Virtual Computer are collaborating on both technology and business to offer a high-performance, easy-to-use solution that can immediately deliver on the benefits of desktop virtualization without the high infrastructure costs of server-hosted VDI. With NxTop deployed on Think-branded PCs, including models of ThinkPad laptops and ThinkCentre desktops, customers gain the benefits of centralized PC management, greater mobility, remote support and the best end-user experience in the market.

NxTop 4 offers the highest performance, lowest cost desktop virtualization platform and is available immediately via Virtual Computer's global channel partners or through Lenovo customer factory install.
