ALEXANDRIA, VA--(Marketwire - Sep 20, 2011) - Former Buccaneers and Colts coach Tony Dungy, now an NBC Sports commentator, and his wife, Lauren, will announce a partnership between National PTA and Family First. The Dungys will also be reading to third-graders at Oak Grove Elementary at 6315 N. Armenia in Tampa on Wednesday, September 21 at 10:00 a.m. in support of the Family First and the National PTA partnerships.
In addition, the Dungys have been named National PTA Honorary Membership Chairs. National PTA, in conjunction with the Tampa-based non-profit, Family First, are developing programs to increase parental involvement in education.
Also attending the event at Oak Grove will be Betsy Landers, President of the National PTA.
Media are welcome to attend the event and the Dungys and Mrs. Landers will be available for interviews afterwards.
The Dungys have been involved with Family First for 15 years with all of the organization's programs that include All Pro Dad and iMOM, which stress involvement in a child's education as an important component of responsible parenting.
"All Pro Dad and iMOM both have breakfast programs at 1,600 schools all over the country, where parents and children have a special time together on a monthly basis," says Tony Dungy. "I come from a family of educators and we know that the more involved parents are in their children's lives, the more likely they are to succeed."
The Dungys will be reading "You Can Be a Friend," one of a series of children's books written by Tony and Lauren.
The event is the beginning of a new chapter for Family First as it partners with the National PTA.
"Fortifying families to realize every child's potential is the theme of our partnership," says Betsy Landers. "We feel the natural extension of the breakfast chapters is to get more parents involved in the school through membership in the PTA, and other volunteer efforts."
