VANCOUVER, BC--(Marketwire - Sep 21, 2011) - ActiveState, the dynamic language experts offering solutions for Perl, Python, Tcl and other web languages, released today the Stackato Sandbox service, a hosted and managed private PaaS test environment to easily test deployment, hosting, security, and scaling of applications in the cloud with Stackato. Beta testers of Stackato, ActiveState's new cloud platform for creating a private platform-as-a-service (PaaS), will have the opportunity to test drive Stackato in a hosted, secure, private PaaS for up to three months at no charge.
As a cloud platform, Stackato is infrastructure-agnostic, and this test environment showcases running a Private PaaS on Amazon EC2. For vSphere users, Stackato is available as a micro cloud for desktop use in three VM formats: vSphere (OVF), Fusion (VMDK) and VirtualBox.
"IT organizations need to be more nimble to the growing needs of application developers. Building on Cloud Foundry and hardening it for the enterprise, Stackato enables organizations to get greater utilization out of their private cloud infrastructure," said Bart Copeland, President & CEO at ActiveState. "To make it even easier to bridge the gap to a private cloud and meet the demands of the market, we built Stackato Sandbox as an easy, alternative way to try Stackato and experience its speed, automation power, scaling and security."
"We have been testing Stackato with the micro cloud, and have been impressed with its ability to bundle and deploy everything seamlessly, taking out all the complications around network security and dependency management. With a lot of our business in the healthcare industry, we have to be HIPAA compliant around data security and privacy. So now, we are keen to test application migration on a private Amazon EC2 instance with Stackato Sandbox," said Hannington Musinguzi, Managing Partner, W&K Systems.
Key features with Stackato Sandbox service:
- Deployment to the cloud hosted on Amazon EC2
- Auto scaling instances and memory allocation
- Enhanced multi-tenant security model, each application in its own Linux Container (LXC)
As a cloud platform, Stackato enables organizations to create their own secure, private PaaS with multiple languages (Python, Perl, Ruby, Node.js, Java), web frameworks, and data services (MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB and Redis) to enable rapid deployment, management, and scaling of applications in a private cloud.
