UNION, NJ--(Marketwire - Oct 24, 2011) - Del-Sano Contracting Corporation, a general contracting, design/build and construction management services firm, announced that ribbon-cutting ceremonies were held October 20th marking the completion of two projects for The Parking Spot at Newark Liberty International Airport. The Parking Spot McClellan at 176-192 McClellan Street and The Parking Spot 2, formerly Skypark, located at 350 Carnegie Avenue, both accommodate the parking needs of airport travelers.
The Parking Spot McClellan project is a valet parking facility for air travelers. The existing vehicle return area and adjacent 2,500 square foot office has been converted to a commuter rest area and client lounge. The interior and exterior have been upgraded with new finishes, comfortable furnishings, a new business desk, lighting, attractive paint, the Parking Spot logo, and a new exterior metal canopy. The Parking Spot 2 at Skypark is a self-park facility for air travelers offering a new modular shelter convenient for patron rest area or waiting.
Both project sites have been refreshed with new asphalt pavement, lane markers and line striping of the 1,700 parking spaces. The properties have upgraded site lighting and perimeter fencing as well as identification signage for easy recognition of vehicle placement. The vehicle entrances are covered and fitted with SKIDATA ticket dispensers and gated access entry and exit systems. The Parking Spot brand is easily recognized from the adjacent highways by the new black and yellow spotted billboard signage, in tandem with the spotted logo on sparkling clean commuter airport shuttle buses.
Del-Sano used 100% recycled milled asphalt for both projects and the McClellan project also included environmentally sustainable material, such as the carpet, tile, millwork, and acoustical ceiling tiles.
"Both parking facilities continued their 24-hour, 7-day-a-week operations during the construction process," said Angelo Del Russo, CEO of Del-Sano. "The Del-Sano team closely coordinated with the management and operations team at The Parking Spot to safely re-locate parked cars and arrange convenient temporary facilities for parking clients and the cashier transactions personnel. The onsite parking business was minimally interrupted and valued customers continued to have a good experience as the improvements were underway. We applaud The Parking Spot design team for selecting sustainable products as part of their environmental consideration for the upgraded properties."
David Menter, regional manager for The Parking Spot, shared his thoughts on working with the Del-Sano team: "Del-Sano is always willing to go the extra mile to make sure its customers get what they want despite the inevitable changes that occur even with the best laid-out plans."
The architectural team on the McClellan project included Lek Suwantaveesri, LEED AP; Willy Zambrano, AIA; and Alex Soffiantini, AIA of ASA + Zambrano Architects of Perth Amboy, N.J. Harry Baker, vice president at KS Engineers, P.C., of Newark, N.J. was the project manager for both projects. The KS Engineers engineering team also included: Robert Nash, PE; Mizan Choudhury, PE; Larry Kern, PE; Harshad Jadish, PE; Raymundo Perez; and Henry Fox, EIT.
"We recommended Del-Sano for this job, because we had a great experience with them in the past," explained Baker. "Everyone has been very happy with the work they have done. Their team is extremely professional and truly cares about what they do. Being in such close proximity to each other made it easy to collaborate and resolve issues quickly."
Gerard Russomano was the project superintendent from Del-Sano and Ed Dever, LEED AP, was the project manager on both projects.
