FT. LAUDERDALE, FL--(Marketwire - Oct 26, 2011) - With the threat of a late season hurricane looming over South Florida this week, community preparation for natural disasters is once again a top priority. Now South Florida communities that want to ensure their knowledge of "Best Practices" in disaster preparation can turn to a new online Webinar hosted by Becker & Poliakoff's Hurricane Preparation & Claims Recovery Team.
"Florida Communities of Excellence Best Practices: Disaster Preparedness Initiatives" is a one-hour, on-demand program that puts community preparation for natural disasters under the microscope. The program features Ed Latalladi, Manager of Ibis Property Owners Association, West Palm Beach, and Mary Blakeney, Assistant Operations Manager with Palm Beach County's Division of Emergency Management.
Mr. Latalladi's 1,200 plus-unit community was selected as the large community winner in the "Disaster Preparedness" category in the 2011 Florida Communities of Excellence Awards, an independent recognition program for the tens of thousands of community associations in the state. Ms. Blakeney is a member of the independent judging panel for the 2012 edition of the Awards.
The Webinar is the first in a series of programs sponsored by Becker & Poliakoff in which examples of practices developed by Communities of Excellence Awards winning communities will be explored.
Topics addressed in the Disaster Preparedness Webinar include:
- Risk determination
- Identification of hazards
- Disaster plan exercises
- New resident orientation
- Disaster check lists
- Volunteer training
- Emergency communications
As Hurricane Rina continues to churn in the Caribbean, the free Webinar can be viewed online at http://www.legal-webinars.com/webinars/20111022/OPEN_ME.htm. The other participants include attorneys Lisa A. Magill and Sanjay Kurian, who are members of Becker & Poliakoff's Hurricane Preparation & Claims Recovery Team.
