WALNUT CREEK, CA--(Marketwire - Nov 4, 2011) - Paradigm Management Services today announced Thomas C. Schell, CPCU, Senior Vice President of Strategic Partnerships, will speak at the 2011 National Workers' Compensation and Disability Conference & Expo on how an expert physician model can improve outcomes and significantly reduce medical costs for catastrophic and complex claims. Schell will make his remarks on the first day of the conference, Wednesday, November 9, at 3 pm.
The session, "The Expert Physician Model: How to Improve Medical Outcomes While Lowering Costs," will address the reasons why getting appropriate medical care to injured workers can make a significant financial difference in many complex claims, such as high-risk orthopedic injuries, evolving chronic pain syndrome and excessive narcotic use. Schell will also offer guidance on recognizing the red flags that indicate when this model should be applied.
"This will be an engaging session full of best practices and opportunities for audience members to share comments and ask questions," said Schell. "I'll explain ways to guarantee improved patient-specific functional outcomes, with a focus on the most complex catastrophic and chronic pain claims, regardless of the age or location of the claim."
A respected workers' compensation professional with more than 30 years of experience in claims, healthcare delivery and care management, Schell is a frequent speaker on challenges facing the insurance industry. He has earned the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation, and taught the CPCU Business Law course at the Insurance School of Chicago. He is a member of the New Jersey Chapter of CPCU, and serves as a founding member of the Board of Directors of AMCOMP.
