Alaska Air Group Inc. to be Added to Dow Jones Transportation Average

AMR Corp. to be Removed From Dow Jones Transportation Average After Filing for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy Protection


NEW YORK, Nov. 29, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Alaska Air Group Inc. will be added to the Dow Jones Transportation Average, Dow Jones Indexes, a leading global index provider, announced today.

Alaska Air Group (NYSE:ALK) will replace AMR Corp. (NYSE:AMR), which today filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and will be removed from the 20-component Dow Jones Transportation Average. AMR, the parent company of American Airlines Inc., had been a member of the Dow Jones Transportation Average since 1982; American Airlines was added to the Dow Jones Transportation Average in 1970.

Through its Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air subsidiaries, Alaska Air Group serves 90 cities through an expansive network in Alaska, the lower 48 U.S. states, Hawaii, Canada and Mexico.

All changes in the Dow Jones Transportation Average will be effective before the open of trading on Friday, December 2, 2011.

The Dow Jones Transportation Average is the oldest U.S. stock index, tracing its roots to 1894, two years before the Dow Jones Industrial Average was founded.
