CAMBRIDGE, MA--(Marketwire - Nov 30, 2011) - On December 14, 2011 the MIT Enterprise Forum of Cambridge will present an Innovation Series event: "Defeating Alzheimer's." The disease devastates the lives of 25 to 40 million people worldwide -- a number projected to quadruple in the coming decades. There are no FDA-approved medicines currently that can significantly modify the course of the disease or any effective means for early detection and diagnosis, although significant research continues to find a cure.
Neurodegeneration is among the most costly and risky areas of drug development and yet presents high levels of reward. Alzheimer's is an area of tremendous scientific promise and presents an exciting business opportunity.
Keynoting the event will be:
- Ken Rhodes, Vice President, Discovery Neurobiology, Biogen Idec
- Dan Skovronsky, Founder and CEO, Avid Radiopharmaceuticals.
An esteemed panel will join Dan and Ken to address these issues and opportunities including:
- Tim Armour, President and CEO, Cure Alzheimer's Fund.
- Kiran Reddy, Principal, Third Rock Ventures.
- The moderator for the panel will be Dr. Rudolph E. Tanzi, Professor of Neurology, Harvard Medical School, Director, Genetics and Aging Research Unit, MassGeneral Institute for Neurodegenerative Diseases.
The event organizer is Dr. Ben Zeskind, Co-Founder and CEO, Immuneering Corporation.
