ITASCA, IL and NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - Nov 30, 2011) - Gogo, the world's leading provider of in-flight connectivity and an innovator in in-flight entertainment, and Kaltura, (www.kaltura.com), developer of the first open source video platform, today announced that Gogo's new streaming video product -- Gogo Vision™ -- onboard American Airlines' entire fleet of 15 Boeing 767-200 aircraft, as well as select Delta Airlines flights, is powered by Kaltura's open source video technology.
"We selected Kaltura and its flexible technology to orchestrate a unique video viewing experience designed to further enhance passengers' time in the air," said Niels Steenstrup, vice president, product and platforms at Gogo. "We leveraged Kaltura's existing capabilities, tweaked the platform to fit our specific needs and ultimately enjoyed low implementation costs, a short time to market, and advanced technology."
To meet Gogo's specific requirements, Kaltura developed a custom solution that uses an on-premise version of the Kaltura software, installed on the airplane alongside Gogo's receiver and router. Kaltura stores the entire video catalog in encrypted form and serves the video over the plane's Wi-Fi network. Gogo's ATG Network is used only for the purchase and DRM license transaction.
The end result for passengers is the ability to browse, select, and view premium video content from the comfort of their own laptops and devices.
"Kaltura's open source video platform is ideally suited for customers like Gogo that require custom workflows, tight integration, and/or an on-premise deployment," said Ron Yekutiel, Kaltura Chairman and CEO. "With hundreds of publically available APIs, over 20,000 active community members, and over 150,000 downloads to-date, Kaltura is the web's leading 'factory for building video apps.' We are the only provider to offer both an extensible framework to build and deploy a wide range of video solutions and applications, allowing businesses across all industries to create value with video that supports their corporate goals, as well as an out-of-the-box SaaS video and rich-management platform for straightforward OVP deployments."
