DALLAS, Dec. 20, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The employees at Certified Payment Processing (CPP) recently conducted a Holiday Food Drive designed to help local families have a better holiday. The company teamed with local charity Metrocrest Social Services and nearly 700 pounds of food were donated, along with more than $1,400.
"We usually have a fundraiser during the holidays," say Kirk Mann, General Manager. "This year, we made the decision to do something with a local focus. We want to make a difference in our neighborhood. Metrocrest is based in our area, and they do amazing work throughout the year for the people of our community, so it was a great place to start."
To reinforce the purpose of the Food Drive, employees were provided information about the important work of Metrocrest throughout the month of December. There were also regular messages about the rising problem of hunger in America, as well as statistics about hunger in Texas. According to the Metrocrest website, the charity serves an average of 130 families a week, distributing more than 25 pounds of food per person. In 2010, Metrocrest distributed more than 1,500 boxes of food to families in need during the holidays.
As an additional incentive to CPP employees, those participating were able to "earn" casual days during the week before Christmas. The items on the needed food list provided by Metrocrest were assigned point values, and one casual day could be earned for every five points worth of food brought in by an employee. In addition, a casual day was given for a five dollar donation. "It works out great for our team," says Mann. "They enjoy dressing down a bit, so for twenty dollars or twenty points worth of food, they could be casual the entire week leading up to Christmas."
