13 of the 15 Component Stocks Poised to Finish 2011 With Gains

NEW YORK, Dec. 29, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- With one trading session remaining in 2011 the Dow Jones Utility Average is on track for its best yearly performance since 2007. The DJUA has gained 15.34% through the close of trading on December 29, 2011.

In 2007, the DJUA ended the year up 16.59% from its close in 2006.The DJUA is comprised of 15 leading utilities companies in the U.S.

Shares of NiSource Inc. are up 41.85% thus far in 2011 leading all other component stocks in the DJUA. Williams Cos. (up 35.22%), CenterPoint Energy Inc. (34.35%), Consolidated Edison Inc. (32.02%) and Dominion Resources Inc. (Virginia, 30.55%) round out the top five DJUA performers for 2011.

Merrillville, Ind.-based NiSource, Williams of Tulsa, Okla. and New York based Consolidated Edison are the only DJUA components poised to repeat their Top 5 showings from 2010; shares of NiSource led all DJUA stocks with a gain of 21.25%, Williams and Consolidated Edison, the third- and fifth- leading performers with gains of 20.07% and 14.94%, respectively, from 2009's close.

Thirteen of the DJUA components stocks are poised to complete the year's trading with gains from a year ago. The only two stocks with year to year losses are AES Corp. (down 2.46) and PG&E Corp. (down 9.54%), the latter on track to be 2011's worst-performing stock of 2011.
