AJAX, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Jan. 10, 2012) - Environmental Waste International Inc. (EWS) (TSX VENTURE:EWS) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Valdis Martinsons to the position of Chief Operating Officer (COO). Mr. Martinsons will oversee the completion of the TR900 Pilot Plant in Sault Ste. Marie and lead the engineering team that implements the system design and advancements for the commercial model, the TR1500. Mr. Martinsons will continue as a member of the EWS Board of Directors, but will no longer be an independent board member and thus will no longer serve on the Board's Compensation Committee.
Mr. Martinsons is a professional engineer with a Master of Applied Sciences engineering degree and a Master of Business Administration degree. He was recently the Chief Operating Officer of iTMethods, a leading provider of business agnostic technology infrastructure operations for the small-medium business market. He was previously Vice President and Chief Information Officer of Virgin Mobile Canada, where he oversaw the successful development and launch of their multiyear infrastructure and foundational roadmap. Prior to that he was Chief Information Officer of Research in Motion (RIM), responsible for all Blackberry operations, Information Technology services and RIM facilities worldwide. During his tenure at RIM, he led the operational improvements that brought Blackberry service to 99.9% availability while handling a tenfold increase in subscribers and a twenty fold increase in message handling.
EWS welcomes Mr. Martinsons in his new role and believes that his appointment is a timely and significant step leading to the commercial launch of the TR application.
EWS has also designed processors for the environmentally safe sterilization and disposal of medical, biological, liquid and food waste and for the recovery of usable byproducts from other organic sources.
