HUNTERSVILLE, N.C., Jan. 19, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Lime Energy Co. (Nasdaq:LIME) announced today that the Zemel Road Landfill Gas to Energy Facility has been named Project of the Year by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Landfill Methane Outreach Program (LMOP).
The LMOP is a voluntary assistance program that helps to reduce methane emissions from landfills by encouraging the recovery and use of landfill gas (LFG) as an energy resource. Project of the Year submissions are awarded based on innovation and creativity, environmental and economic benefits and overall success in promoting landfill gas to energy projects locally and nationally. "From its inception, the Zemel Road facility presented a host of unique challenges including a remote location and the implementation of a biogas clean system never before used in US landfill application," said Eric Dupont, President of Lime Energy's Asset Development Group. "The project team's innovative approach to problem solving resulted in a successful project that will provide a renewable power resource to Charlotte County for many years to come."

Lime Energy accepted their award at the 15th Annual LMOP Conference on January 18th in Baltimore, MD. In addition to the Lime Energy team, Charlotte County Project Manager Roger Lescrynski was on hand to celebrate the achievement.
