PHOENIX, Feb. 7, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Association of Energy Services Professionals (www.aesp.org) recognized outstanding energy efficiency and demand-side management programs at its 22nd National Conference and Expo held February 6 – 9, 2012 in San Diego, California.
"Energy efficiency and demand-side management programs represent a growing, vital component of the energy industry," said Meg Matt, AESP president and CEO. "These award recipients have demonstrated that they are taking leadership roles in moving the industry forward and driving users of energy toward smarter methods of consumption. We were especially excited to recognize a young professional in the industry this year."
AESP presented awards in five categories:
PROGRAM DESIGN & IMPLEMENTATION
Bonneville Power Administration, Energy Smart Industrial Program (ESI)
The Energy Smart Industrial program has delivered unprecedented energy savings in the industrial sector. In 2011 the ESI program acquired over 28 aMW of verified energy savings. This represents over triple the savings that BPA achieved on an annual basis in the industrial sector prior to the ESI program design and launch in October 2009.
RESIDENTIAL PROGRAM DESIGN & IMPLEMENTATION
NSTAR, Community-Based Outreach Initiatives
NSTAR's Community-based Outreach initiatives are a new approach to energy efficiency outreach. Through partnerships with community organizations, NSTAR mobilizes these groups with strong outreach capabilities to increase local participation levels in the Mass Save Home Energy Services (Mass Save) program. For more than a year, NSTAR has worked with 11 community outreach groups to increase the participation levels of the Mass Save program. To-date, their Community Based Outreach partners' referrals have led to: a) nearly 1,400 home energy assessments; b) installation of 17,900 CFLs; c) installation of 640 programmable thermostats; and d) completion of 340 weatherization jobs.
TECHNOLOGY DEPLOYMENT
Duke Energy, Load Control Program
Duke Energy initiated a partnership with Cooper Power Systems to develop a new type of residential AC load control switch that includes a historical use algorithm that adjusts the load cycling time to assure that the contracted load from each unit is provided during a power control event. This new technical innovation represents a significant advancement for being able to control AC units to achieve a specific load reduction for each AC unit and for the program as a whole.
MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS
Columbia Gas of Virginia, WarmWise Program
Columbia Gas of Virginia launched its WarmWise program in April 2010 to provide its nearly 240,000 residential and business customers a resource to become more energy efficient, conserve natural resources and the opportunity to save on their energy bills. In the program's initial nine months of 2010, Columbia Gas of Virginia had nearly 1,400 customers complete the Home Savings Evaluation and provided customers with $367,000 in WarmWise rebates.
