Amsterdam, February 16, 2012 - ARCADIS (EURONEXT: ARCAD), the international consultancy, design, engineering and management services company, today announced that the company has won the IUCN Leaders for Nature Award 2012. The prize has been awarded to ARCADIS for the innovative way the international company engages in the improvement of ecosystems and biodiversity.
Already in 2011 the company drew up the best plan to improve its own sustainability efforts. Beginning this year the IUCN has evaluated the start of the implementation phase of the plan. According to the jury ARCADIS deserves the first prize as it outperforms the other 15 nominated companies and excels in the way it cooperates with other companies to improve its sustainability.
Furthermore, the jury is of the opinion that ARCADIS has shown dedication and commitment when it comes to sustainability and cooperation with IUCN. These were decisive factors for selecting ARCADIS as the first prize winner. In addition, the company is co-founder of the Leaders for Nature program in which 11 major Dutch and international companies have expressed their commitment to carry out specific projects for biodiversity and ecosystems in and outside the Netherlands. These include a pilot in which industrial sites are linked to nature. Currently ARCADIS is measuring in practice the impact of its operations on ecosystems and biodiversity and takes action at the same time to reduce it. In the coming period ARCADIS will include effects on biodiversity in their consulting services to clients.
IUCN's Leaders for Nature cooperates with twenty member companies to integrate sustainability into their daily activities with a special focus on ecosystems and biodiversity. For this purpose the companies are establishing long term action plans. The award was created to stimulate and support the member companies as well as to reward them for their commitment to sustainability throughout the whole company.
