Report on Social Responsibility

On March 14, 2012, Cheminova has published the 6th annual report on social responsibility, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

On this occasion Cheminova CEO Kurt Pedersen Kaalund says:
"We have reached many important goals and initiated significant activities. We are now working to set new long-term goals. The targets will ensure that Cheminova's mission is continually translated into higher food production through more efficient, safe and environmentally friendly plant protection."

The toxic products are phased out from developing countries
Our original goal to phase out the most toxic products (known as WHO Class I products) from developing countries was reached in 2010. Then we launched projects in villages in India and Brazil with the purpose to improve farming and thus the living conditions of rural residents. These projects cover a range of activities that have improved daily life in the villages.

Women are the key to success
One of the activities is women's empowerment project SAHELI (Safety, Health and Livelihood), which includes four villages. Saheli means a friend - especially a woman - in the Indian language Hindi.

The project aims at spreading the message about safe use of plant protection products to men through women's influence. It has been shown that messages about family members' well-being and safety have better punch when it comprises the households’ women. So we try to ensure that women understand the importance of basic safety precautions when working in the field with plant protection.

On the whole, empowerment of the women is of great benefit to rural communities in India. Therefore, we help through this project to strengthen the position of women generally in rural communities.

We provide training in such diverse things as health, hygiene, child nutrition, animal husbandry and saving for the future. The project also includes medical examinations and information on women's and children's diseases.

Judging by the feed-back we have received - even by independent observers - there is great satisfaction with the project initiatives already making a difference.
