The numbers are in and it`s official: half-way through the month and Sunshine Village, in the majestic Canadian Rockies of Banff, Alberta, has received an all-time record monthly snowfall of 215cm (over 7 feet) for the month of March.
"The resort's all-time snowfall record for the month of March has been beaten and we are only half way through the month," said John Scurfield, Senior Vice President of Resort Operations, Sales and Marketing of Sunshine Village. "This is Sunshine Village's biggest March snowfall in history and the snow keeps coming - Sunshine's ski conditions are the best I've ever skied."
This following an epic snow storm in early March which brought over a 123cm (over 4 feet) of snow to the resort, the largest snow storm in 40 years.
The total snowfall this season sits at an unbelievable 859cm (28 feet).
The icing on the cake is the conditions in the free ride terrain, Delirium Dive and the Wild West, which according to seasoned vets, is the best it has ever been.
"The local knowledge will tell you the same - 'she's goin' off'," said Mountain Operations Manager Al Matheson. "With the backcountry conditions being so tenuous right now- resort skiing is the safest option."
"Our avalanche control team and ski patrol have been hard at work for weeks now to stay on top of our free-ride terrain. Delirium Dive and Wild West have some of the best conditions the resort has ever had. Now is the time to grab your beacon, probe, shovel and a partner and go explore some of the most adventurous in-bounds terrain that any resort in North America has to offer," said Tim Ricci, Assistant Snow Safety Supervisor.
If you're not quite ready to tackle the dive, come out for the steeps or the groomed cruisers, as Sunshine Village has terrain to suit all levels of skiers and riders.
With more than two months left in the Sunshine Village season, the resort is sure to see more fantastic conditions.
Sunshine Village is renowned for its champagne powder, a very smooth and dry snow, which is fantastic for skiing and boarding.
There's never been a better time to grab our spring pass, on sale now, ski up to 63 days for as low as $297.
Sunshine Village is wide open until May 21st and at the time of this release, it is still snowing heavily!
