New York, NY, March 19, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- With the tagline "In the war on cancer, the disease is only half the battle"; Cut Poison Burn has sparked a growing following of patients, professionals, advocacy groups and even former big pharma executives exposing the roadblocks imposed on medical innovation and absence of patient freedoms. With real patient stories, industry and FDA insiders and world-renowned medical professionals, this film delivers a compelling critique of the power of medical monopolies, pharmaceutical companies and government agencies in the business that keeps them profitable and relevant, while limiting the patient’s freedom of choice.
Reaching close to $100 billion in the US, the cancer research, therapies and patient treatment options continue to be controlled and impaired by a select few whose financial agendas get in the way of innovation and breakthrough therapies. "Alternative thinking is considered by all to be dangerous in that it will cause big pharma to lose money. There is no room for innovative thinkers in medicine" says Donna Navarro whose story next to husband Jim Navarro is featured in the film.
In a search for less invasive, proven and innovative therapies for their son Thomas, the Navarros discovered the limitations the FDA place on patients seeking new treatments; becoming a catalyst for the development of the documentary. For example, the FDA would not allow the Navarro’s to use Antineoplastins therapy, developed by Dr. Stanaslaw Burzynski with proven records of medical success on brain cancer, because it was not approved and was in clinical trials. "Our argument was that conventional therapy was also in clinical trials and not approved for the treatment of pediatric cancers, so why is it that the American people do not have the right to chose when it is a life threatening disease? Child protective services came after us for medical neglect and child endangerment. Isn't subjecting your child to chemo and radiation abuse?" said Mrs. Navarro.
The premier in Washington, D.C. will include special guests from government and advocacy groups as this issue continues to get broader national exposure. Currently the documentary helps as an awareness tool for the Navarros who are helping the Canary party (www.canaryparty.org), who are like the Tea party, but focused on medical freedoms and free access to the truth about food, medicine and water. Cong. Dan Burton is introducing a new Bill called "Access to Medical Freedom Act", HR 2637 in the 112th congress.
With the attendance of Donna Navarro and producer Charlie Sadoff., the screening will be hosted in the Avalon TheaterThursday, March 29th at 8:15pm. Tickets are available for purchase at http://store.nehst.com/cutpoisonburn.html or purchased at the venue for $15.00.
