National Safe Boating Council Offers Hands-On Training at Five Different Locations for Close-Quarters Boat Control Instructor Course

BRISTOW, VA--(Marketwire - Mar 20, 2012) - Interested in enhancing your boat handling instruction skills? The National Safe Boating Council (NSBC), as part of its mission to promote safer boating through education, outreach and training, has developed an instructor's course in Close Quarters Boat Control. The course is designed to address the growing needs among professionals, volunteer groups and those who teach programs to the recreational boating public. Training will be held in five different locations during the next several months.

"This course is ideal for professionals and others who teach novice recreational boaters how to handle their craft safely and proficiently," said Virgil Chambers, executive director of the NSBC. "The NSBC's Close-Quarters Boat Control Instructor's Course can help to advance instructional skills and give the students more confidence when operating their craft."

The Close-Quarters Boat Control Instructor Course is supported through a U.S. Coast Guard grant, therefore, the National Safe Boating Council is able to assist qualified course attendees with travel and lodging costs. This course focuses on maneuvers and techniques used for basic boat handling and how to control a boat in close quarters, such as docking, coming alongside, backing and turning in a narrow space. The curriculum is presented in an easy-to-follow format. The course will be offered five times between April - August 2012: Nevada (April 17 - 18); Texas (May 9 - 10); Connecticut (June 12 - 13); Ohio (June 27 - 28); and Tennessee (August 22 - 23). Those enrolling will be asked to commit to using the training to advance hands-on instruction.

For a complete list of where each course will be held and more information on financial support to attend the course, contact the NSBC at (703) 361-4294 or office@safeboatingcouncil.org.
