CINCINNATI, OH--(Marketwire - Mar 26, 2012) - Cincinnati Ballet announced its 2012-2013 season line-up September 6, 2012 through April 27, 2013. Productions will be at Cincinnati Ballet Center, Aronoff Center for the Arts and Music Hall with live music accompaniment by Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra (CSO) and the Cincinnati Ballet Orchestra under the direction of Carmon DeLeone.
The Kaplan New Works Series, 9/6-16/12. Annual season opener celebrates new ideas and creative movement to showcase female choreographers and focus on local artists.
Alice in Wonderland, 10/26-28/12. Choreographer Septime Webre teams with costume designer Liz Vandal of Cirque du Soliel to reimagine the wacky world of Wonderland through illustriously costumed, glorious dancing. "It's going to be a wild ride... Precocious little Alice will lead us on a raucous journey where things are not always what they seem," Webre said.
Frisch's Presents The Nutcracker, 12/14-23/12.
Clara's Christmas Eve adventures to the Land of Sweets with her Nutcracker prince is a family favorite. Choreographed by Cincinnati Ballet artistic director, Victoria Morgan, this magical version premiered in 2011 and includes 150+ children in entertaining roles such as dancing cupcakes, flipping snowflakes and flying bumblebees.
Romeo & Juliet, 2/14-16/13. Shakespeare's classic tale of star-crossed lovers interpreted in classical and contemporary movements. Artistic director, Victoria Morgan brings to life the legendary feud of the Montague's and Capulet's, an intensely romantic balcony scene and a tragically beautiful final embrace.
Prodigal Son, 3/22-23/13. A mixed bill including the iconic work of legendary neo-classical choreographer George Balanchine. Prodigal Son explores themes of sin, redemption and unconditional love. Extremely Close, Alejandro Cerrudo's thoughtful, contemporary work is inspired by poignant piano solos and opens on a stage of falling feathers, reflecting delicacy and fluidity of movement.
Ballet Toybox, 3/24/13. One matinee of classical and contemporary selections designed to delight families and introduce children to ballet.
Frampton & CB Live, 4/26-27/13.
The crown jewel of the season. Grammy winning guitarist Peter Frampton remains one of the most celebrated artists in rock history. Cincinnati Ballet is privileged to collaborate with the esteemed star to bring music and dance enthusiasts an unforgettable production. Frampton will create an original composition allowing audiences to rock out as dancers come alive to music performed by him.
