Haier is Encouraging Employees to Switch Off the Lights for Earth Hour

Commitment to Earth Hour Kicks Off Smarter Life, Better Plan Campaign for 2012


NEW YORK, March 28, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Haier, the world's #1 appliance brand*, is joining in the Earth Hour campaign again this year by asking its employees to shut off the lights at home for 1 hour on Saturday March 31st at 8:30 PM local time in support of the global sustainability awareness campaign. In 2011, Haier chose Earth Hour as the launching point for the Smarter Life, Better Planet campaign which tracks and supports the inspiring visionaries, organizations, and ideas paving the way for the world of tomorrow.

Held every year since 2007, Earth Hour is the largest global campaign for climate change awareness, with hundreds of millions of people, enterprises and cities participating in over 100 countries and territories. Participants are encouraged to switch their lights off for 1 hour at 8:30 PM local time to stimulate awareness around the issue of climate change and send the message that the time for action is now. 2011 marked the beginning of a new era in the Earth Hour movement with the addition of the call to Go Beyond the Hour with a deeper commitment to ensuring the Earth's future. In the US, Haier America employees in New York have pledged to turn the lights off, and Haier is encouraging consumers to do the same in videos and messages posted through social media assets.
