Missing Children Society of Canada: 2 Year Anniversary Marked for UK Missing Children Traced to Toronto Area

The Missing Children Society of Canada (MCSC) is assisting the Greater Manchester Police (GMP) in England in investigating the disappearance of two young children. Khalid and Ahmed Abubakar, now aged 6 and 5 years old, were known to have travelled on April 9, 2010, by coach from London to Amsterdam with their mother, Anisa Mohamed Ibrahim. The boys' father, Abdul Abubakar, has been desperately searching for them ever since.

It is known that Anisa took the boys from Amsterdam to Frankfurt, Germany, where they boarded a plane to Toronto arriving on April 13, 2010. Anisa and the children's exact whereabouts are not known, however, it is believed they may be in the Toronto area and may be connecting with the Somali community in that region.

Anisa is wanted by the Greater Manchester Police (GMP) for unlawfully abducting the boys. There is a history of concern for the boys' safety, and the Police Child Protection Unit in England is also investigating the case. Also of concern is that Khalid has a severe skin condition which requires medical attention.

"We have devoted a large amount of Police resources to finding Anisa and the two boys since they disappeared," said Detective Inspector Kevin Marriott, who is based at South Manchester Crime Operations Unit. "From our enquiries we believe that Anisa and the boys may be in Toronto or another region of Canada and we need the public's help to take this investigation further."

MCSC was contacted by the GMP last fall to request assistance in locating Khalid and Ahmed as soon as possible. MCSC has previously worked with the GMP in the abduction case of little Pearl Gavaghan Da Massa, who was successfully reunited with her father in September 2011.

"I appeal to the Somalian community to come forward with any information as to the whereabouts of the children," urged Ted Davis, an Investigator with MCSC. "Our priority is to ensure that both boys are located and that they are found safe and healthy".

The abduction ordeal has been a painful two years for the children's father. Mr. Abubakar has not seen his children for over two years now, and the strain of not knowing their whereabouts is causing him extreme distress and anxiety.

Both boys often have their hair shaved, but when it is grown out it is black and curly. Khalid is described as being very fragile looking. He is of similar height but thinner than his younger brother Ahmed.

Anisa Ibrahim is originally from Somalia. She is 5'10", of heavy build, with curly black shoulder length hair but often wears a headscarf. She occasionally wears Muslim traditional clothing, but usually wears western style clothing.
