REDWOOD CITY, CA--(Marketwire - May 8, 2012) - Network automation pioneer 6connect, announced today that Vector Data Systems, the quality alternative to incumbent Internet access providers for government and business in Washington, D.C., has deployed the 6connect Internet Protocol Address Management (IPAM) and DNS Management platform across its network. The feature-rich 6connect platform simplifies short-term IPv4 management challenges and supports long-term IPv6 operational goals. 6connect automates IPv4 and IPv6 IPAM, critical to maintaining the health of complex and ever changing networks and fulfilling strict Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
By replacing IPplan with 6connect's free IP Address Software across their network, Vector Data Systems' eliminated the labor-intensive, error-prone manual tasks involved in reassigning Internet Protocol address space and managing BIND DNS.
Vector Data Systems also rapidly connected their network to the Regional Internet Registry (RIR) with the 6connect API to American Registry for Internet Numbers' (ARIN) RESTful Web Services. 6connect is the first company to successfully integrate with both ARIN and RIPE.
"I will say that [6connect's] product is much more feature-rich and intuitive than IPplan. I like the ability to write reverse DNS zone files straight from the IPAM interface especially. Also, being able to SWIP space with one click and give access to customers to manage their space is also helpful," said Patrick Shoemaker, president, Vector Data Systems LLC.
"The sheer scale of IPv6 addressable space is orders of magnitude bigger than IPv4," said Pete Sclafani, CIO of 6connect. "While this provides some much needed breathing room for IP address allocations -- tracking the myriad of possible IPs becomes more challenging than ever."
An Internet Service Provider for the government-intensive Washington, DC area, Vector provides broadband Internet access, voice service, hosting solutions, and online backup to its business and government customers.
Vector Data Systems selected 6connect for its reliability, ease of deployment, and its cost effectiveness. 6connect natively supports both IPv4 and IPv6 networks while making the implementation and management of BIND for DNS far easier. Furthermore, 6connect automates SWIP (Shared WHOIS Project) processes to ensure the effective, efficient management and maintenance of records on IP address space, reduces errors, increase security and simplifies operations.
