CHICAGO, June 12, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The nation's broadest assembly of physicians will gather in Chicago to shape the health care agenda of the American Medical Association (AMA), the country's largest physician organization.
The AMA's House of Delegates is the policy-making body at the center of American medicine, bringing together physicians and medical students representing every state and major medical specialty. Delegates will work in a legislative forum to create a national physician consensus on emerging medical issues in public health, science, ethics, education, business and government.
Among the proposed policies to be considered for the AMA's health care agenda include:
- Taxing beverages with added sweeteners to help fight obesity
- Balancing the risks and benefits of screening mammography
- Recognizing the adverse health effects of excessive nighttime lighting
- Regulating nanoparticles used in consumer products
