Detroit, MI, June 19, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Did you know that Americans throw away more than 200 million tons of waste every year? That's about 4.43 pounds of waste per person per day and 16 hundred pounds a year. Imagine what large manufacturing plants put out?

One American car maker is well on its way to knocking that
number down and eliminating trash day completely by celebrating the
opening of their 100th landfill-free facility; The Toledo
Transmission Plant, in Toledo, Ohio. To qualify for the
environmentally friendly seal of approval, all of General Motor's
landfill-free facilities recycle or reuse about 97% of their
materials. The rest is burned for electricity.
With the opening of the 100th plant producing limited waste, the
automotive industry is turning around the preconceived notion that
car makers cause harm to the planet.
