Olympic Steel, Inc. Names Chairman's Humanitarian Award Winner


CLEVELAND, July 20, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Olympic Steel, Inc. (Nasdaq:ZEUS), a national metals service center, has named Jerry Stech, Inventory Control Specialist in the Company's Minneapolis processing facility, the 2011 recipient of the Chairman's Humanitarian Award. Mr. Stech was honored during a ceremony at Olympic Steel's Corporate Headquarters in Bedford Heights, Ohio on July 20.

Mr. Stech is recognized for outstanding commitment to his local community and demonstration of Olympic Steel's Core Value of Corporate Citizenship. He is active with organizations that support education and research funding for Spinal Muscular Atrophy. Mr. Stech has also channeled his love of fishing to volunteer support for "Let's Go Fishing" and the "Fishing Klinic for Kids," two events that use fishing as a form of therapy and education in the local community.

The Chairman's Humanitarian Award is presented annually for extraordinary contributions to the community or for special initiative, resourcefulness and courage in an emergency situation on or off the job. As part of his award, a $500 contribution will be made by Olympic Steel on Jerry Stech's behalf to Sophia's Cure Foundation, an organization dedicated to funding for clinical research in pursuit of a cure for Spinal Muscular Atrophy and supporting families affected by this disease through advocacy, awareness, and education.
