CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwire - Jul 23, 2012) - GoHealthInsurance.com, a Chicago-based technology company, partnered with Erie Neighborhood House to host 15 teens for their first Teen Tech Day on June 27, 2012. The day-long event proved to be successful and enlightening for both the visiting students and GoHealth's employees.
Throughout the day, each student attended presentations by Business Analysts, Software Engineers and Quality Assurance Analysts. These hands-on sessions introduced the teens to the Software Development Lifecycle utilized at GoHealth and gave them ample opportunities to ask questions about careers in technology.
"One particular student was especially engrossed in the Quality Assurance tasks," notes Becky Shepkowski, a GoHealth project manager and Teen Tech Day volunteer. "She found bugs that the presenters had not anticipated. Everyone in the room cheered!"
At the end of Teen Tech Day, the students from Erie House completed a survey pertaining to their experience at GoHealth and the results were extremely positive. Out of the 13 students who attended, 10 said they were now considering a career in technology. When the students first arrived at GoHealth, only six said they had previously considered this path.
"Learning about STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) careers helps expose the students to areas of study. It's exciting to see them really respond to these opportunities," said Joshua Fulcher, Director of Erie House's Youth Options Unlimited.
Based on the positive results, GoHealthInsurance is planning on making Teen Tech Day an annual event.
