PORTSMOUTH, Va., Aug. 19, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Dr. Heather Normandt has joined the Churchland Animal Clinic veterinary team. Dr. Normandt will be providing pet wellness services, including routine exams, vaccinations, and pet dental care. Dr. Normandt has a special interest in veterinary dermatology, internal medicine and exotic medicine. In her spare time, the veterinarian also helps to rescue and rehab abused animals. She and her husband share their home with two pit bulls and a Cairn Terrier mix.
Churchland Animal Clinic announced that they have added a new Portsmouth veterinarian to their team, Dr. Heather Normandt. The clinic provides veterinary care for the Chesapeake, Hampton Roads, Suffolk and Tidewater communities.
"I became a veterinarian so I could help change lives and educate people about the importance of proper animal care," said Dr. Normandt. "Pet owners want the best for their pets. Many, however, do not know just how important routine care like dental and exams and vaccinations truly are for their pet's health. Dr. Normandt graduated from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2009. While in veterinary school, her studies focused on veterinary dermatology, internal medicine and exotic medicine.
Like her fellow Portsmouth veterinarians at Churchland Animal Clinic, Dr. Normandt is passionate about animal care and empowering pet owners through veterinary education.

Dr. Normandt will also help administer the animal clinic's puppy and kitten wellness plans. These programs are designed to give young animals a head start on good health. They include the fully puppy/kitten shot series, spay or neuter operations, and deworming.
The vet is also working with pet owners to raise awareness about the importance of monthly heartworm and flea and tick prevention medication.
