Bryan Starr Joins OCBC as Senior Vice President of Government Affairs

IRVINE, CA--(Marketwire - Oct 15, 2012) - Bryan Starr joined Orange County Business Council (OCBC) as Senior Vice President of Government Affairs on October 15, 2012. He will work closely with OCBC's board of directors and members to implement a government affairs program built around OCBC's four core initiatives: ensuring a range of workforce housing, supporting workforce development, improving infrastructure, and enhancing economic development.

Starr joins OCBC following nearly eight years of service at Building Industry Association of Southern California (BIASC), where he served most recently as Chief Executive Officer of the Orange County Chapter of BIA -- the largest in California -- focused on issue advocacy in commercial and residential development, as well as economic and construction industry workforce development. In 2001, Starr was appointed as a junior staff member to the powerful Committee on Ways and Means, United States House of Representatives.

"Bryan's track record of success in the building industry will give strength to all of Orange County's diverse industry segments. His experience in infrastructure, housing, education and politics is value-added to OCBC's investors and members," said Lucy Dunn, President and CEO of the Business Council.

Starr has worked on numerous political campaigns at the local, state, and federal level. In addition, Bryan served as the Government Affairs Director for the Associated Builders and Contractors of Southern California and as Director of Public Affairs for a Newport Beach based public affairs consulting firm.

"I'm honored to have the opportunity to join OCBC and its fine team of professionals. I look forward to serving as a resource for the nation's leading businesses, and continuing OCBC's advocacy efforts at the local, state and national level, to meet the board of directors' goals and objectives," said Starr.

Starr has served on numerous public boards including the Irvine Community Land Trust Inaugural Board of Directors, Orange County Council of Governments, OC Waste and Recycling, and the City of Irvine's Green Ribbon Commission. Starr's opinions on political strategy and issue advocacy have been published in major news outlets such as the Orange County Register, OC Metro, the Long Beach Press Telegram, The California Real Estate Journal, The Orange County Business Journal, and independent industry-specific trade publications.
