SANTA CLARA, CA and AUSTIN, TX--(Marketwire - Oct 22, 2012) - Mobile Shopping Fall 2012 -- Spotzot (www.spotzot.com) introduced a first-of-its-kind Mobile Shopping Index that measures and ranks top retail categories based on mobile shopping habits of millions of Americans. The aggregate index provides valuable insight into which product categories are more effective at generating leads to stores and e-commerce sites through mobile offers and advertisements. The index is based on data gathered during the first three quarters of 2012 on the Spotzot Mobile Shopping network, which reaches 100 million shoppers.
The Spotzot Mobile Shopping Index measures the effectiveness of mobile offers and advertisements among over 1,000 of the top U.S. retail chains across more than 100 product categories and subcategories. The index provides a relative ranking of their mobile lead generation performance based on converting a shopper's interest into purchase intent and is expressed as the total shopper intent divided by shopper interest multiplied by 100.
"The Spotzot Mobile Shopping Index is an important industry indicator that quantifies mobile advertising's potential in a concise and easy-to-understand manner," said Jim Schreitmueller, Spotzot Co-founder and Vice President of Sales. "The index reveals that the average retailer ranks 25 to 64 points below the top performing retailer in each category, proving there are substantial opportunities to drive qualified mobile leads to stores and e-commerce sites."
The Spotzot Mobile Shopping Q1 - Q3 2012 Index, including top rankings by shopper interest and intent, is available at http://www.spotzot.com/msi.
The Spotzot Mobile Shopping Index measures shopper interest based on all the mobile shopping queries received for each product category from Spotzot publishers that include shopping, search and location-aware applications and web sites. Shopper intent reflects a stronger likelihood to purchase based on subsequent shopper actions that qualify consumers. Such shopper actions include click-throughs to web sites, clicks that reveal nearby stores and driving directions, clicks on phone numbers to call nearby stores and clicks on coupons viewed in close proximity to retailers.
Key indicators of mobile shopper behavior during Q1 - Q3 2012:
- 8 out of 11 indexed categories were directly influenced by sales and coupons. This indicates a high consumer interest in discount offers for categories such as Automotive Parts and Services, Jewelry and Watches, Home and Garden and Kids and Babies. Examples include 20% off entire purchase, $25 off a $100 purchase, etc.
- Women's and Men's Apparel and Accessories generated some of the most qualified leads to retailers overall, with Men's Shoes outperforming Women's Shoes in relative shopper intent.
- Over 70% of the product categories demonstrated a higher than average shopper index, which included Office Products and Supplies, Portable Audio and Video, Toys, Pet Products, Men's Sweaters, Women's Outerwear, and Intimates and Legwear.
