COLUMBIA, Mo., Dec. 5, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Veterans United Home Loans, based in Columbia, Mo., was recognized as the No. 29 job creator in the United States yesterday in Inc. magazine's inaugural Hire Power Awards. The awards honor America's 100 top private job creators over the past three years. Veterans United generated 564 jobs from 2008 to 2011.
Additionally, Veterans United was ranked in the top 10 of two other lists, placing No.1 for Missouri job creation and No.1 for job creation among financial services companies.
"It's no secret, we see our employees as ultimately responsible for our successes and for making us better each day – that's how so many positions were created," said Nate Long, CEO of Veterans United. "I think this award really recognizes our commitment to serve veterans, active military and each other. The quality of each of our employees and their dedication has allowed us to grow and continue to write this story, and we want everyone who works with us to experience this."
Founded in 2002, Veterans United is the nation's No. 1 dedicated VA lender. Its mission is to help veterans and active military members take advantage of the home loan benefits earned by their service. It financed more than $1.6 billion in loans in 2011, growing from $1.1 billion in 2010. The company is approaching $3 billion in financing for 2012. In November, the company was named the No. 21 best medium place in the country to work by Great Place to Work.
The Hire Power Awards recognition does not include 2012 hiring numbers for Veterans United. In 2012 alone, the company has hired more than 450 people, bringing its nationwide employment to 1,200. In Columbia, Veterans United employs more than 850 people. It also employs 150 in Lenexa, Kan., and 40 in the Dallas area. The company has 27 offices in 22 states.
Inc. is the only major business media brand aimed solely at CEOs of fast-growing private companies. The Hire Power Awards are sponsored by Bank of America Merrill Lynch and will appear in Inc.'s December/January issue and online.
"The top 100 companies on the list have created 73,032 American jobs in the three-year period from 2008 to 2011 – an amazing feat, given that much of that job growth came during the heart of the recession," said Eric Schurenberg, Inc. editor-in-chief. "And it isn't just the big guys that are adding jobs. Companies with less than $50 million in annual revenue make up nearly one-third of the Hire Power list."
