BASKING RIDGE, NJ--(Marketwire - Dec 19, 2012) -
- New infrastructure for City of Boynton Beach is designed for maximum uptime.
- Solution includes new wireless connectivity in city buildings and public gathering spots.
Avaya today announced that the City of Boynton Beach, Florida, has selected a new Avaya network that will provide the high levels of reliability the city needs to deliver seamless support to a busy city staff.
Located in Palm Beach County on Florida's famed Atlantic coastline, Boynton Beach serves a rapidly growing population and thousands of tourists who flock to the community throughout the year. The city's previous network infrastructure was well over a decade old, creating concerns about ongoing reliability, service and support.
To resolve those concerns, nearly two dozen public buildings are being linked in a new campus network that will feature high-reliability Avaya Ethernet and wireless switches. The new network will collapse multiple existing data center sites into a single, cost-efficient and easy to administer hub, sized to meet the city's needs.
Boynton Beach anticipates the new network will lower annual maintenance costs and improve network speed and performance. Faster access to data will help staff members deliver faster service. In addition, the city will be able to provide secure wireless connectivity to both employees and guests throughout city buildings, meeting rooms and popular public gathering spots.
For the city's information technology specialists, new Web-based tools make it simple to administer and monitor the system -- from setting broad system-wide policies and security controls to administering individual connections. Staffers will have a single view of all switches, routers and wireless devices, making them easier to configure and maintain.
The new infrastructure will also support forward-looking applications the city is now evaluating, such as new automated bill-paying tools and mobility applications that can help city employees work more productively on the go.
Installation of the new network, which is being built on Avaya Ethernet Routing 5000 Series, 4000 Series and 3000 Series and Avaya Wireless LAN 8100 Series switches, is underway. It is expected to be completed during the first quarter of 2013.
Avaya previously upgraded the infrastructure used by Boynton Beach police delivering a ten-fold increase in throughput and supporting the applications first responders need to conduct investigations and deliver superior service to the community.
Quote
"I am personally very excited about this project. The downturn in the economy made us smart about looking at price, quality and how long products last. We were careful to invest in highly reliable, proven technology that will save us time and money and open up new possibilities for how we deliver services to our citizens. The Avaya team has gone above and beyond my expectations, and I am fully confident we have the best partner for the job."
