The 3 Slot PCI Expansion product attaches to the computer through a PCIe host card or an ExpressCard for laptops. It extends PCI signals over a cable to three high-bandwidth PCI slots in the external enclosure that can be rack-mounted. All cards installed in expansion chassis are available to the host system and operate at 64-bit PCI speed.

PE3R is based on a combination of two existing Magma products, the 2 slot PCI chassis and the 4 slot PCI chassis, resulting in a 3 slot PCI expansion backplane housed in a rack-mountable enclosure with a 550W power supply. The black enclosure can be used on a table top or it can be rack-mounted with the supplied brackets. As a rack-mounted device, PE3R requires only 2U of rack space.
PE3R provides a long-lasting and rock-solid migration path to PCI Express platforms while protecting the customer's investment in legacy PCI hardware. The base unit includes a connection to either a laptop or desktop computer, but additional host cards are available separately.
