MetaMetrics Signs Record Number of Publishers in 2012 to Deliver Lexile Measures for Thousands of Books

A Robust Quarter Yields a Fifty Percent Increase in Number of Publishers From 2011, With More Publishers Offering Lexile Measures Worldwide

DURHAM, NC--(Marketwire - Jan 21, 2013) - MetaMetrics®, developer of the widely adopted Lexile® Framework for Reading, is pleased to announce that 18 new publishing partners have signed on this past quarter to provide Lexile® measures for their titles. Lexile measures offer valuable information about a book's text complexity so that readers can select texts that best match their unique reading ability and goals. Recognized globally as the most widely used reading metric, tens of millions of Lexile measures are reported annually from reading assessments and programs. Since 2010, MetaMetrics has doubled the number of publishing partners offering Lexile measures. MetaMetrics welcomes the following publishers:

"We're so pleased to see yet another promising quarter and record-breaking year. We commend our new publishing partners for recognizing the power behind Lexile measures," states Malbert Smith III, Ph.D, President and co-founder of MetaMetrics. "Understanding and measuring text complexity has continued to be a part of our national dialogue, with the Common Core State Standards further defining what it means to be college and career ready."

The Lexile Framework is a unique tool for accurately matching readers with text. Unlike other measurement systems, the Lexile Framework evaluates reading ability and growth based on actual assessment results, rather than generalized age or grade levels. Content receives a Lexile measure when MetaMetrics analyzes the complete text using proprietary software. Lexile measures range from below 200L, for beginning-reader text, to above 1600L, for more advanced text. Lexile measures help teachers, librarians and parents find books, articles and other resources within a reader's recommended Lexile range. Reading materials within a student's optimal Lexile range will challenge the individual's reading ability, while still maintaining interest and learning.

Books that have been assigned Lexile measures are available on MetaMetrics' free "Find a Book" search utility. "Find a Book" lets readers build custom book lists and locate their selections at the public library. With more than 135,000 fiction and nonfiction titles and hundreds of publishers, "Find a Book" enables educators and families to utilize the Lexile Framework and match readers with appropriate text.
